728,344. Hydraulic brakes. PIGANEAU, G. P. July 8, 1953 [July 8, 1952 ; Nov. 20, 1952], No. 18973/53. Class 103 (1). In a hydraulic brake system for vehicles, the brakes are applied at low pressure by a first movement of the brake pedal 32, which through linkage 53, 46 causes a valve rnember 61 to shut off the return to a reservoir 14 of the delivery from a continuously running pump A and later to open a non-return valve 59 to allow pressure to be supplied from an accumulator B. Further movement of the pedal sufficient to take up play " a " in a lost-motion connection 52, causes rod 94 to be moved so that a disc 80 on the vehicle transmission shaft engages the extensible pulley 78, Fig. 5, of a servo-device wherein centrifugal weights 88 fly apart to cause actuation of a servo-hydraulic piston and cylinder unit 69, 70 which is disposed in the hydraulic line to the brake cylinder 5 and thus the pressure therein is further increased to a much higher pressure. By this arrangement the accumulator B may be only required to supply a relatively low pressure or may be omitted from the system altogether.
