Abstract

728,064. Clips. CARR FASTENER CO., Ltd. Feb. 27, 1953 [April 10, 1952], No. 9311/52. Class 44. [Also in Group XXXVI] A clip for gripping wire, cable or the like comprises a support having a pair of sheet metal arms flexibly mounted thereon, the arms extending from the support in opposed parallel relation, each arm being formed with side edge portions bent inwardly towards the side edge portions of the other arm to define a pair of axially extending slots between which a wire, &c. is adapted to be inserted and gripped by the side edge portions and at least one of the side edge portions being formed with teeth or serrations for gripping the wire, &c. In the arrangement shown, as applied to means for attaching an electrical wire to a lamp holder comprising a metal body 1 having a central spring-loaded contact 2 extending through insulating blocks 3 and 5 an either side of the base of the body 1, the contact 2 is electrically and mechanically connected to a base portion 6 of a sheet metal clip having a pair of resilient arms between opposed edges of which bared portions of wire or cable are forced into engagement. The arms of the clip are formed with flat portions 7,8 having wing portions 7a, 7b, 8a, 8b, defining a pair of parallel slots. One or more of the edges of the wings may be serrated. The wire or cable may be forced between the opposed slots by means of a suitably shaped tool.
