Abstract

A hard elastic wax is made by mixing (1) an ester which has a hydroxyl number of at least 40 and is derived from a high molecular weight fatty acid and a trihydric or higher polyhydric alcohol with (2) a natural or synthetic resin which has a hydroxyl or acid number and heating the mixture with (3) a di- or poly-isocyanate. Before, during or after the reaction with the polyisocyanate an amide derived from a high molecular weight fatty acid and an aliphatic, cycloaliphatic or aromatic mono-, di- or polyamine or hydroxyamine may be added. The Specification exemplifies a large number of suitable fatty acids, polyhydric alcohols and amines. In example (1) a mixture of the ester of trimethylol propane and an acid mixture derived from oxidizing montan wax, colophony and hexamtehylene diisocyanate is heated to 170-180 DEG C. (2) A mixture of the ester of pentaerythritol and montan wax acids, the glycerine ester of colophony, and toluylene diisocyanate is heated. (3) A mixture of the product of example (2), the amide from cyclohexylamine and a fatty acid derived from the oxidation of paraffin wax, and the diamide from 4.41-diamino-bis-cyclohexylmethane and linoleic acid is heated to about 150 DEG C. A dyestuff may be added to the wax. (4) The product of example (1) is fused with the anilide of rape seed oil acid.
