Abstract
727,354. Cupola furnaces. BUDERUS'- SCHE EISENWERKE. March 4, 1953 [March 7, 1952], No. 6040/53. Class 51 (2). In a cupola furnace of the type in which the lining is cooled in the region of the tuyeres, the lining 4 in this region is considerably reduced in thickness by the insertion of a number of open box-like castings 1, made from alloy cast iron or steel, cooled by water sprays 10, and formed with tuyere openings 2 at different heights in different castings. The castings are also formed with a lower lip 11 over which the water flows on to a plate 12 directing it on to the lower part of the cupola shell 6 from which it collects in a trough 14. The thin section of the lining is made from neutral or basic material, e.g. stabilized dolomite, and the castings are detachably secured to the cupola shell 6 by angle irons 5. The tuyeres 3 of known water-cooled type may be horizontally disposed or downwardly inclined and may project slightly through the lining. In the former case the inner face of the tuyere is inclined downwardly and outwardly of the lining.
