Abstract
726,932. Feedwater heating systems; heating air. FOSTER WHEELER, Ltd. June 22, 1953. [June 20, 1952] No. 15615/52. Classes 64 (1) and 64 (3). In a feedwater heating system as described in Specification 674,583, the rate of flow of feedwater through the economiser section 24 most remote from the furnace is automatically controlled by the temperature of the feedwater or flue gases leaving that section, so that the temperature of the section is maintained above the dew-point of the flue gases. A thermostat 42 or 56 actuates a valve 44 admitting air to one or other side of a piston 46, which opens or closes either a valve 48 in the outlet from the economiser section 24 or a valve such as 60 controlling the supply of feedwater to the section 24. The valve 48 has a bypass 50 so that there is always some water flow in the economiser section 24. The water is heated by steam in two heat-exchangers 28, 32 before reaching the economiser. The part of the feedwater supplied to the section 24 is drawn off either between the two heat-exchangers 28, 32, as shown, or after leaving the second one. In the latter case it is cooled by heating combustion air before entering the section 24.
