Abstract
726,682. Soil stabilization. YOUHOTSKY, M. J. Jan. 1, 1953 [Jan, 2, 1952], No. 39/53. Class 68(1). Earthworks are constructed of alternate layers of stable and of less stable material. The stable material may be obtained by increasing the stability of the less stable material with a stabilizing agent or agents. The sides of an earthwork so constructed can be steeper than the natural angle of repose of the less stable material and the lateral pressures encountered within the layers of the less stable material are of small magnitude. The earthwork may be protected by shields, or a casing of stable material, or a combination of both forms of protection. As the earthwork is built up each layer may be compacted within removable shuttering.
