Abstract
726,019. Clothes drying apparatus; temperature-responsive actuating-elements. RANCO, Inc. May 26, 1953 [June 4, 1952], No. 14615/53. Classes 34 (2) and 64 (2). [Also in Group XXXVII] A control device, especially for the heater and motor of a clothes drier, comprises two control members adapted to be held closed by a single latch which can be pivoted about two different axes so as to release the contacts in succession. As shown applied to a switch, two pairs of contact springs 19, 20 and 21, 22 are arranged to be closed by a spring-urged pivoted lever 40 when a push-button 55 is depressed. Depression of the upper contacts 19, 21 moves projections 78, 79 thereon below the lower surface of a latch 60 which is rotated about a pin 61 by a spring 76 to overlie the projections and so hold the contacts closed. The pin 61 is supported in a lever 65 pivoted at 70 and urged clockwise by a spring (not shown). The pin 70 also carries a spring-urged lever 82 which carries a depending stop 81 arranged to be engaged by the latch 60 as it overlies the contacts, Fig. 5. A thermal element 105 has a plunger 106 which moves to the right on temperature increase thereby moving the lever 65 and latch 60 bodily to the right. The latch 60 is thereby-caused to pivot counter-clockwise about the stop 81 to release the projection 78 and allow the contact springs 19, 20 to separate at, e.g. between 150 to 200 F. The heater is thus de-energised and the plunger 106 is retracted so that lever 65 and the latch 60 are moved back clockwise about pivot 70. During this movement, latch 60 engages the side of, and pivots about, the projection 78, thereby releasing the projection 79 and allowing the other contacts to open the motor circuit, e.g. at 135 F. The stop 81 may be adjusted by a cam 86, and the plunger 106 engages a factoryadjusted screw 107 in lever 65. The latch may alternatively be released by a clock. Temperature-responsive actuating-elements. The element 105 comprises a plunger 106 reciprocable in a cylinder 110 containing a rubber member 112, the interior of which is connected to a capillary tube 111 containing expansible liquid,
