Abstract
725,925. Refrigerating. SVENSKA TURBINFABRIKS AKTIEBOLAGET LJUNGSTROM. Nov. 2, 1953, No. 30229/53. Class 29. [Also in Group XXIX] In a compression refrigerating system having a liquid trap 1 in the suction line wherein refrigerant enters through a pipe 2, the gaseous part passing to the suction pipe 3 and the liquid meeting a baffle 5 and passing through a filter 4, the liquid drains through an annular aperture 6 to a float chamber 7 and, on accumulation of liquid, the float 9 rises to cause a sleeve valve 10 to close the entry ports 12 of the suction pipe 3. This creates a pressure difference between the chamber 7 and the suction pipe and the liquid in chamber 7 is then drawn slowly through an inverted U- shaped narrow pipe 13 into the suction pipe. Oil is also returned by this path. The highest part of pipe 13 is at such a height that liquid flows through it only when the compressor is operating. The float is filled with compressed air and has a greater weight than that of the displaced liquid, the difference being taken up by a spring suspension 14. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown) the liquid refrigerant passes into a spring-supported open-topped receptacle which moves down to close the entry ports of the suction pipe and a narrow pipe similar to pipe 13 dips into the receptacle to convey liquid to the suction pipe. The pipe 13 may be replaced by a narrow pipe leading direct from chamber 7 to the suction pipe and having a valve automatically closed when the compressor stops.
