Abstract

725,480. Vacuum cleaner nozzles. LEWYT CORPORATION. June 10, 1953, No. 16008/53. Class 8 (1). A vacuum cleaner nozzle 10, Fig. 2, having an elongated inlet 17 has a comb 18 parallel to the inlet and pivoted within the nozzle so as to be able to rock from a position adjacent the forward edge of the inlet opening 17 to an operative position adjacent the rear edge as the nozzle is moved forwardly over the surface being cleaned ; stops 27 serving to limit rocking movement in both directions. The comb 18 carries ears 19 at each end engaged by pivot pins 20 projecting from brackets 21 carried by the rear wall of the nozzle. The comb teeth which are curved at the ends are arranged in front and rear rows 24, 23 and when adjacent the front edge of the nozzle inlet 17 as shown in Fig. 3 restrict the effective aperture. Rearward rocking of the comb 18 is limited by abutment of the upper portion thereof against the forward edge of a flanged stop 27 and forward rocking is limited by abutment of the upper portion against the upper portion of said stop 27. A retractable brush 14 located behind the nozzle is brought into operative position by a mechanism 15 manually controlled by an actuator which co-operates with indica 16a (not shown) corresponding with restricted, intermediate and fully extended positions of the brush.
