Abstract

724,700. Cathode-ray tubes. PHILCO CORPORATION. March 6, 1953 [July 9, 1952], No. 6278/53. Class 39 (1). In a cathode-ray tube deflecting coil system in which the coils lie on a surface of revolution and have loop-ends extending away from the axis of the system, the loop-ends of one set of coils, arranged as two pairs of coils 72, 74 and 76, 78, embrace in both the axial and radial directions, the loop-ends of the other set of coils, arranged as a single pair of coils 54, 56, or n + 1 coilpairs may interleave with n coil-pairs. Each coil may comprise a distributed winding, or may itself, as shown, comprise two coils, the loop-ends of one lying within the loop-ends of the other. For example coil 74 consists of the two coils 80, 82. Each such coil-pair is designed to produce for the axial and radial portions a cosinusoidal, and for the arcuate portions of the loop-ends a sinusoidal, distribution of ampere turns. A ferromagnetic cylinder 50 for example of moulded powdered iron, encloses the system. Specification 687,762 is referred to.
