Abstract

724,679. Copy-turning. COMMONWEALTH ENGINEERING CO. OF OHIO. Feb. 17, 1953, No. 4455/53. Class 83 (3). Apparatus for machining work to a given configuration in a lathe &c. comprises a template mounted stationarily relative to the worksupporting means and followers carried with the tool-support engaging the template and work respectively so as to move relatively to each other in response to non-conformity of the work with the template, electrical means indicating said non-conformity. The tool carriage 200 carries an upright 204 adjustable in the direction of the carriage travel by a slide 202. Pivotally connected to the top of the upright at 206 is a feeler arm 208 adapted to ride on the work 210 adjacent the cut. The arm has an extension 216 carrying an adjustable screw 218 which engages the actuating plunger of a double-switching device. The latter is supported on a block 224 also pivoted at 206 and rests on the upper end of a rod 230 which slides vertically in a guide provided by the column 204. The lower end of the rod rides on the edge, of a template 232 representing a profile of the work to be produced, the template being secured to a fixed part 234 of the machine. When the work is being properly shaped according to the template, no relative movement between the limit switch 222 and the arm 208 takes place, but, if a deviation occurs, a high or a low limit warning light 226 or 228 respec. tively, in the circuit of the limit switch, is illuminated to indicate that the tool requires adjustment.
