Abstract
724,326. Annealing glass. COMPAGNIES REUNIES DES GLACES ET VERRES SPECIAUX DU NORD DE LA FRANCE. March 30, 1953 [April 8, 1952], No. 8679/53. Class 56 In the annealing of continuously produced glass sheet F, the sheet is passed first through a chamber 7, the insides of which reflect heat whereby the temperature of the sheet is equalized. The sheet then passes through a heatabsorbing chamber 8, the insides of which are treated so that they approximate to a " black body," and the glass loses its heat therein substantially wholly by radiation. The chamber 8 is water jacketed and by the time the glass emerges its temperature is below that at which its expansion curve undergoes its principal change. Final cooling is effected by air jets 9, 10. Precautions are taken to prevent any loss of heat by convection; these include the provision of fine bristles 19, e.g. of brass, which may be heat-insulated from the chamber, and a sleeve 18 between the two chambers. Electric, radiators may be positioned in the chamber 7 adjacent the outlet.
