[Also in Group VI] Sausage meat or other plastic substance fed under extrusion pressure to an inlet 10 is delivered in successive measured quantities through an outlet 11, the meat first being directed from 10 by a hand rockable valve 9 through a tapered passage 6 to fill a (left-hand) cylinder 3. In filling, the piston rod 20 is forced out pulling with it the connected tie rods 26 which at their right-hand end drive inwards the other piston 19 to extrude the previous charge of meat through the passage 6 and along the smooth incline of the valve 9 to the outlet 11. The valve 9 is then rocked through 90 degrees by a handle 12 to dotted line position whereby a fresh charge of meat is directed to the right-hand cylinder 3 while the other piston 19 empties its cylinder through the outlet 11, the piston stroke being terminated when the lock nut 24 abuts against the surround of the empty cylinder. The amount of the quantity received and delivered can be varied by handwheels 23 which adjust the position of each piston 19 relative to its crosshead 22. Since the consistency of the meat may vary from time to time, a constant weight is obtained by adjusting the volume of meat delivered by screwing lock nuts 25 along the tie rods 26 to vary the position at which they abut against the respective cylinder surround, thus varying the stroke. Triangular section rings 27 may be located in the shoulder of each cylinder to prevent meat lodging and sticking there. The valve and passage are suitably curved to allow a smooth flow of the meat. Stops 13 limit the rocking of the valve 9 to 90 degrees.
