Abstract
724,249. Tubular heat-exchangers. PETERSEN, L. K. H. Oct. 6, 1952, No. 25006/52. Class 64 (3). Relates to tubular heat-exchangers comprising a plurality of parallel coils through which a medium such as steam is passed, housed in a container 1 through which flows the other heat-exchange medium (e.g. water to be heated). According to the invention, the helices of immediately adjacent coils (e.g. 22, 23) are of opposite hand and the coils intermesh, a filler member such as a closed tube 24 being arranged within each coil. In the arrangement shown, the coils extend between headers 5, 20, the arrangement being such that the tube assembly may be rotated on erection to give any desired relative disposition of the steam inlet 10 to the coils and the water inlet 4 and outlet 9 of the container. Condensate of the steam leaves the header 20 through an outlet 21. Additional filler members (Fig. 2 not shown) may be arranged in the spaces between the coils and the casing 1.
