Abstract
A composition of dough-like consistency for making casts of parts of the human body comprises ethyl methacrylate polymer and a liquid, e.g. a mixture of 83 per cent alcohol and 17 per cent water. The polymer may be in the form of substantially spherical granules 0.1 to 0.25 mm. diameter, and may have a molecular weight in the region of 2.3 to 2.9 X 105. The composition may contain also potato starch, petroleum jelly and oil of wintergreen.ALSO:An article to fit a part of the human body, e.g. an artificial denture or a miniature deaf-aid telephone receiver which is worn inserted in the ear, is made by a process which includes the step of making a mass of dough-like consistency from ethyl methacrylate polymer and a liquid, e.g. alcohol and water, and applying this mass (warm) to the body part to form a cast of the said part. From this cast, e.g. of the ear cavity, a mould is made, usually of plaster, and from this mould the final article is made in, e.g. acrylic resin, this article being a replica of the cast.ALSO:An article to fit a part of the human body, e.g. an artificial denture or a miniature deaf-aid telephone receiver which is worn inserted in the ear, is made by a process which includes the step of making a mass of dough-like consistency from ethyl methacrylate polymer and a liquid, e.g. alcohol and water, and applying this mass (warm) to the body part to form a cast of the said part. From this cast, e.g. of the ear cavity, a mould is made, usually of plaster, and from this mould the final article is made in e.g., acrylic resin, this article being a replica of the cast.
