Abstract
724,005. Anchors. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. April 30, 1953 [April 30, 1952], No. 10878/52. Class 113 (1). An anchor comprises a shank 1, a pair of flukes 8 pivoted to and disposed one on each side of the shank and a box-like stabilizing unit 3 integral with the after end of the flukes: the stabilizing unit consists of plates 13, 14 extending outwardly from and at right angles to the flukes 8, the plates being parallel to the longitudinal axis of the anchor and spaced across the width of the base of the flukes to provide unobstructed longitudinal passages and support a tripping bar 23 while the inner plates 14 carry a shank retaining plate 24. The plates are disposed in pairs on either side of the plate 7 out of which the flukes 8 are fashioned, the outer ones having front and rear sloping edges 16 cut away at their apices; the inner plates 14 are substantially halves of the outer plates and have no rearwardly sloping edges. The flukes are formed by cutting a slot 9 in the plate 7 which is of triangular shape and has recesses 28 cut in its tapering sides to provide forwardly facing shoulders 28b. The pivot pin of the shank 1 has diametrical slots at its ends which engage the edges of the groove 9 as the pin already placed in the shank 1 is slid along the groove, the pin being finally bolted at its end to the plate 7.
