Abstract
723,833. Lubricating systems. SIELAFF, M. [trading as VOGEL KOMMANDIT-GES. W.]. Sept. 23, 1952 [Dec. 3, 1951], No. 23827/52. Class 12 (3) In a system for the automatic lubrication of machines in which lubricant from a supply reservoir is fed under pressure through a conduit common both to one or more points to be lubricated continuously and to means for feeding the lubrication points intermittently, a pressure responsive flow-controlling valve is interposed between the common conduit and the points to be continuously lubricated, so as to ensure sufficient pressure for the intermittent lubricant, and passages for returning excess lubricant to the supply reservoir are provided both on the continuously-operating and the intermittentlyoperating devices. In the arrangement shown, lubricant is supplied from a reservoir 1 by a pump 2 to a conduit 5 leading by a spring-loaded valve 3 to points 4 to be continuously lubricated. Excess lubricant returns to the reservoir by a conduit 6. A conduit 7 connected to the conduit 5 leads to a housing 8 in which is a control piston 9 provided with an annular groove 10. When the piston is actuated, which may be done mechanically, hydraulically, or electro-magnetically, the piston moves inwardly, opening communication between the conduit 7 and a conduit 11 leading to distributers 12 for 'supplying points with accurately dosed quantities of lubricant. Lubricant returns from the conduit 11 to the housing 8 through a spring-loaded valve 14, which is set for a lower pressure than that of valve 3. Lubricant flowing through the valve 14 forces the piston 9 back to its normal position, in which excess lubricant in conduit 11 flows back to the oil reservoir 1. The bore 15 at the inner end of the piston is connected through a valve 18 and a passage 19 with the return passage 17 to the reservoir. The valve 18 responds to a small pressure sufficient for returning the piston to its normal position. A catch 20 is provided to locate the piston resiliently in its operative and normal positions.
