723,769. Fork lift trucks. SHARP, J. R., and KAYE, E. Aug. 5, 1952 [May 4, 1951], No. 10555/51. Class 78 (3). A fork lift truck has a safe load indicator which is responsive to the tipping moment exerted on the truck by the load. The indicator comprises an hydraulic capsule 29 which is connected between the thrustor 25 and the tiltable mast 14, and communicates through a pipe 35 with a pressure gauge 34. As shown in Fig. 2 the capsule 29 comprises a cylinder 31, integral with the thrustor piston-rod 28, and a piston 30 secured to a member 27 on the mast. In a modi - fication the gauge 34 may be replaced by a pressure-responsive device operating electrical cut-out means which either operate a warning device or immobilize the lifting rams 20, 24 and the thrustor 25 when a safe load is exceeded. In a further modification the capsule may be dispensed with and the pressure within ram 25 is communicated to the gauge or pressureresponsive means. According to another modification the capsule is located between the truck chassis and the near axle. The Provisional Specification describes a modification of this arrangement in which limit switches are provided to restrain the travel of the thrustor 25 so that false readings are not obtained when the thrustor is stopped by solid restraint. Also described in the Provisional Specification is an arrangement in which the indicator comprises a spring balance or other strain gauge. Specification 650,375 is referred to.
