Abstract

723,695. Ball and socket joints. WALL'S, Ltd. July 31, 1953 [July 24, 1952], No. 18702/52. Class 65 (2). [Also in Group XIV] Pivoting adjustments. Mem bers 5 and 16 of a lamp bracket are connected together by a ball and socket joint com prising a fixed abutment 8 in the tubular member 5, a pac 10 located on the abutment and adapted to be moved by an adjusting screw 9 mountec in the abutment, a second pac 11 positioned above the first pad, a compression spring 12 interposed between the pads a friction pad 13 mounted or the second pad, and a bal member carried by the member 16 and disposed in frictional engagement with the pad 13, the joint members being secured in operational position by forming over the end of the member 5 into engagement with the ball member. The formed-over end is constituted by the projections between four slots 7 provided in the end of member 5.
