Abstract

Compositions for internal application to regenerated cellulose sausage casings are exemplified: (1) a 5 per cent paraffin wax emulsion in 2 per cent aqueous methyl cellulose; (2) an emulsion of paraffin wax and suet in 3 per cent aqueous methyl cellulose; and (3) an emulsion of suet in 2 per cent aqueous methyl cellulose containing coconut oil.ALSO:A regenerated cellulose sausage casing has an adhering internal continuous coating comprising a water-soluble, physiologically harmless film-forming substance and intimately dispersed therein a high molecular, i.e. a molecular weight of 200 or more, aliphatic hydrocarbon, e.g. paraffin wax, or an ester of a high molecular fatty acid with a mono- or poly-hydric alcohol, e.g. animal or vegetable fats such as tallow, lard, suet, coconut oil, or hydrogenated vegetable oil, or mixtures thereof. The dispersed material is applied in an aqueous solution of the film-forming substance, e.g. starch or methyl cellulose, and the water evaporated.
