A sealing glass or enamel having a thermal expansion of 45 to 60 x 10-7 consists of (parts by weight per cent) CdO 5-60; ZnO 15-55 and B,O, 25-45. Optionally up to a total of 10 per cent SiO 2 and/or Al 2 O 3 and/or Zr/O 2 and up to a total of 5 per cent alkali and alkaline earth metals may be added, also colouring agents such as cobalt, nickel or chromium oxides.
