Abstract

722,583. Shoes for animals. MAY, E. Dec. 3, 1952, No. 30646/52. Class 62. An orthopedic hoof pad for the treatment of frog bone paralysis in horses comprises elastic shock-damping wedges 16 which are inserted between the hoof 6 and the shoe 11 so that the hoof is located in an anatomically correct position relative to the ground, while the frog 9 is supported by a foam rubber member 17. The supporting member may be positioned between the wedges as shown in Fig. 9 and may be fixed or free to move, the lower surface being protected from wear by a layer of hard rubber. The wedges may alternatively be connected at the heel by a bridge 19, Figs. 7 and 8, the supporting member being then located between the bridge and the frog. The bridge has a ribbed wearing surface and may be provided with a cavity 21. A bushed metallic plate (not shown) may be disposed within the cavity, the bushings extending through the bridge for the reception of detachable steel or hard rubber pins. The wedges are held in position by the shoe nails 13.
