Abstract
525,963. Boots &c. METCALF, W. MILLER-. March 1, 1939, No. 6708. [Class 17 (ii)] A resilient plate A is applied to footwear under the instep to bridge the gap between the heel and sole so that in walking heel shock is first absorbed at the heel, which may be cut away at B<SP>6</SP>, followed by rebound, while the main spring depression relieves strain at the instep and gives a forward impulse. In one example, the plate A is rigidly secured to the middle of the heel and is free at its forward end to press on the rear of the front sole B' directly or indirectly through a pad. The spring is cranked at A<SP>1</SP> to increase resiliency. A pad A<SP>10</SP> of rubber, leather or the like may also be employed. In a modification, the forward end of the spring may be secured by screws to the sole. In another modification instead of the spring being cranked under the instep it may be reinforced by an additional spring abutting against the heel.
