Abstract
722,495. Oxidizing fuel agglomerates; tunnel kilns. HOUILLERES DU BASSIN DU NORD ET DU PAS-DE-CALAIS. Dec. 8, 1952, [Oct. 20, 1952.] No. 31124/52. Addition to 716,537. Classes 50 and 51 (2). Plant for effecting a two-stage oxidation of coal-pitch agglomerates, followed by cooling in an inert atmosphere, as described in the parent Specification, comprises a tunnel furnace 1 of three sections with side distributers ducts 4, 5, for introduction and withdrawal of gases caused to pass transversely through the mass of agglomerates contained in trucks having perforated bottoms 16 and a fireproof baseplate 17 with side edges fitting in recesses in the furnace walls. As shown diagrammatically in Fig. 3, gases are admitted through pipes 6a, 6b, 6c in the three sections and exhausted through pipes 7a, 7b, 7c; thus for the middle section a fan 25 draws gases from duct 4 and some of the exhaust gases may be recirculated by means of a pipe 28 connecting pipe 7b with the fan. The first section is supplied with air through an inlet 3 and gases delivered to duct 5 in the second section. Duct 4 supplies this section with combustion products from a hearth 8 mixed in a chamber 9 with cooler gases from the third section and hot gases from the first. The third'section is fed with gases from the first after passing through a cooler 13.
