Abstract

722,225. Levels. INGLIS, J. Aug. 13, 1952, No. 20325/52. Class 97 (2). [Also in Groups XXXI and XXXVII] Indicator alarm means for installation on a vehicle comprises an electric alarm circuit having an automatic switch which breaks the circuit when the vehicle is upright but closes it when the vehicle tilts to either side, the switch comprising a bottom body portion inclined downwards from its ends or edge to the centre, a covering body portion conforming to the bottom portion but electrically insulated therefrom and a ball between the covering and bottom portions and able to gravitate between parallel walls or guides into the centre of the bottom portion. As shown the switch is of rectangular shape in plan, its bottom portion carrying a terminal F by which the switch is secured to the vehicle and connected to earth. The edges of the bottom are secured to the covering portion B by screws O and insulation C. The covering portion B carries a terminal E connected to an earthed circuit comprising an audible and/or visual alarm. The switch forms a space A housing the ball J adapted to bridge the bottom and covering portions when the vehicle is inclined laterally to a sufficient degree. Movement of the ball may be damped by oil introduced through a filler cap M. In a modification, Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown), the switch is circular in plan, the ball being confined within guides running transversely of the vehicle.
