A warning device to indicate when rain is falling or liquid is leaking from a pipe or container comprises an insulating base 1 supporting two exposed electrically conductive grid members having a plurality of exposed internesting elements which alternate in spaced proximity to one another so that when rain or other liquid reduces the resistance between the members an electrical circuit is closed to operate an audible or visual warning. The base 1 may have a copper surface deposited thereon which is etched to form a grid 2 of spaced conductors connected to terminals 3, 4, the base 1 being mounted on a block so as to be inclined to the horizontal. The grid may alternatively be of inverted V cross section on a suitable base. The device may be flexible to allow it to be wrapped around a pipe.
