Abstract

722,224. Gratings. HERBERT, E. B. Aug. 7, 1953 [Aug. 8, 1952], No. 19985/52. Class 107. A gully grating is composed of spaced cast bars bearing integral bosses normal thereto and acting as spacers when screwed rods are threaded through cored holes in the bosses to maintain the bars in operative position. The end bars of the grating may be constructed with downwardly and outwardly sloping ends to engage beneath mating lugs or bosses on the cast iron frame so that the grating cannot be removed by a vertical lift. The bars 12 are of inverted T-section and bosses 14 are arranged on one side only. The last bar 10 of the series has no bosses and completes the sequence. Rods 19 are threaded through the aligned bosses and nuts 21 are then screwed on. The ends of the end bars 11, 12 are sloped downwardly and outwardly (17), the other bars having inwardly sloped ends 18. A frame with corresponding features is described and illustrated and mates with the gully grating to prevent direct vertical lifting from dislodging the grating.
