Abstract

721,728. Glasshouses. CHASE PROTECTED CULTIVATION, Ltd., and ELLIS, L. H. Sept. 29, 1953 [Nov. 3, 1952], No. 27558/52. Class 20 (1). A glasshouse having a low-pitched roof and sides which slope inwardly from the base to the eaves, has its roof and side frames connected to and carried by a stiff truss comprising rafters 3 and styles 4 which conform to the slope of the roof and sides and are extended beyond their junctions at 17 to meet respectively an upright brace 2, at 16, which springs from near the foot of the sides, and a transverse brace 1, at 15, which springs from the ridge of the roof, the braces being themselves extended to meet at 14. The brace 2 may be vertical, and the brace 1 may be substantially horizontal. A peak rail 19 may be fitted for strengthening. Two such trusses may be spaced lengthwise of the greenhouse, the extensions of the truss facilitating carrying the greenhouse by means of transverse lifting bars bolted to the extensions after removal of the frames. The roof sections end short of the ridge to provide ventilating spaces which have horizontal lights mounted on pivoted arms at each end of the light.
