[Also in Group XXIX] In a gun stabilization system, a spring-loaded pendulum associated with the gun barrel detects movement of the barrel from a datum and effects a restoring action through a hydraulic servo-system. As shown, impulsive movements of the gun 1, in the vertical plane, cause relative displacement of 1 and the mass 16 pivoted on the bracket 4 of 1. The resultant change in pressure in cylinder 18 relative to that in 7 is detected at valve 29 and effects operation of valve 13 to adjust the pressure in 7 and hence restore the original alignment of 1 by the ram 6. Damping, correction for bearing friction and for change in movement of the ram force 27 are effected by the springs 15, friction shoes 32 and the cam 37. Changes in the gun elevation are effected manually by displacement of 16 by piston 42.
