Abstract

721,090. Lining moulds; mould materials. GRIFFIN WHEEL CO. July 30, 1952, No. 10943/53. Divided out of 721,059. Class 83 (1). A riser cup is formed within a riser opening of a previously heated mould section by supporting within the opening a lining layer of a heat-hardenable mixture which is set by the residual heat from the mould. The liner 88 is formed within the opening 92 of the graphite cope 38 described in Specification 721,059 by inserting within the opening a plug 90 of, for example, aluminium, closing the bottom of the opening by heater device 102, filling the space around the plug with a mixture of sand and a heat-bardenable binder and then hardening the mixture by the heater 102 and by residual heat from the previously heated cope. The plug is centred within the riser opening by a handle 94 with guides 96 which engage within holes 98 in the cope. A bottom opening is then drilled in the liner or alternatively the plug or the heater may have a projection which forms the opening.
