Abstract

A pair of rubber surfaces is united by first cleaning the surfaces with a rubber solvent, interposing a sheet of unvulcanized rubber composition comprising rubber, a vulcanizing agent and an ultra accelerator, and applying heat and pressure to the assembly for a time sufficient to vulcanize the rubber and unite the surfaces. In an example, the rubber surfaces to be joined are wiped with trichloroethylene, and then a sheet of unvulcanized rubber of the same composition but containing 4 per cent. by weight of a dithiocarbamate is interposed, the whole is heated to 300 DEG F for 4 minutes to complete vulcanization.
