May 27,1953 [May 28, 1952], No. 13509/52 [Class 129] A tea rolling machine of the type in which the leaf is in a container relatively movable with respect to a horizontal table and in which a pressure cap within the container applies pressure to the leaf is provided with means for lifting and tilting the pressure cap so that leaf can be charged from a hopper into the machine from the top of the container. The pressure cap 19 is pivoted on an arm 22 itself pivoted about a cross-head 25 secured to the machine and working in a slide 23 in the arm 22. The arm is also guided by a pin 37 in a shaped groove 38 in the machine, and actuated by a pneumatic or hydraulic cylinder 32 so as to lift and tilt the pressure cap 19, which is further tilted at the top of the stroke by a cam 40 and follower 18. When the cap is raised, a hopper 6 is moved to the dotted line position by a pneumatic or hydraulic cylinder 16 acting through a rack and quadrant 14, 10. In modifications, the cylinders 16 and 32 are mounted on supports secured to the leaf container and supplied through flexible hoses so that the container can be oscillated instead of, or in addition to the table; the hopper may be actuated by a rope secured to arm 22 instead of pneumatically as shown; the pressure may be raised vertically by a pair of pneumatic or hydraulic jacks mounted vertically on either side of it; and it is stated that the pressure cap and hopper may alternatively be actuated manually or electrically.
