Abstract
719,095. Flexible couplings. DAIMLERBENZ AKT.-GES. Feb. 8, 1952 [Feb. 8, 1951], No. 3368/52. Class 80 (2) [Also in Groups XXVII and XXXII] A member 4 transmitting the drive from an internal-combustion engine to a subsidiary part is connected to the engine crankshaft by a resilient coupling, the member 4 being within and the resilient coupling being outside the engine crankcase. As shown, a portion 2 of the crankshaft 3 extends through the crankcase wall 1 and the member 4 is freely mounted on the portion 2. The member 4 is integral with, or is connected by dogs 5, to a revoluble part 6 formed with a flywheel 7 and freely mounted on the portion 2. A hub member 8 grooved to receive a driving belt is fixed to the portion 2 and is coupled to the flywheel 7 by pins 9 engaging in rubber bushes 10 in holes in the flywheel 7. The bushes 10 may be vulcanized to the pins and/or to the disc 7. Seals 11, 12, prevent oil from the crankcase from reaching the flexible coupling. The flywheel 7 may serve as an oscillation damper and it may be divided into masses which may be mounted resiliently on pivots. The bushes 10 may be replaced by a continuous rubber ring having projections on its inner and outer surfaces to engage the adjacent parts of the members 6, 7. The bushes 10 may be replaced by metallic springs.
