Abstract
718,124. Mercury switches. KYTE, G. H., and SPERRY GYROSCOPE CO., Ltd. Jan. 2, 1953 [Jan. 11, 1952], No. 940/52. Class 38(5) [Also in Group XXXV]: In Fig. 1 a mercury switch comprises an upwardly concave glass tube 1 in which a bubble of mercury 2 is normally in a central position. Tilt of the switch greater than a predetermined extent in either sense completes a circuit between a common electrode 3 and an electrode 5 or 8. Still greater tilt involves electrodes 6, 7, 9 or 10. Electrode 3 may be a metal deposit on the wall of tube 1. Tube 1 may be straight and successive electrodes of increasing cross section to resist movement of the mercury.
