Abstract
607,617. Mercury switches. RADIO APPARAT CO. AKTIESELSKABET, H. EBBESEN & I. C. JENSEN, and GRUE, O. E. Nov. 30, 1945, No. 32460. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Nov. 30, 1945.] [Class 38 (v)] In order to increase the time between successive operations of a gas-filled mercury switch tube, a throttle is provided foi damping the movements of the mercury or the gas. The heater 16 causes the mercury to move into the right-hand branch 12 of the tube and the heater circuit is broken at 20, so that the mercury gradually returns to the position shown to re-energize the heater. The throttle may be a gas filter 26 consisting of a porous glass plate, or a capillary tube sealed in the contact tube 10. Alternatively, the tube may be reduced in the path of the mercury, preferably just below the contact 20.
