Means for extinguishing a fire in a petrol storage tank comprises a vertical tube or duct which is connected with a foam supply pipe near its lower end and which is formed wholly or partly of fusible or inflammable material so that foam is released at the burning surface of the petrol. One side of the tube may be formed of fusible &c. material or a series of slots or short branch tubes may be closed by fusible &c. material.
