Abstract

716,975. Relief valves. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd., and TREVASKIS, H. W. Aug. 15, 1952 [Sept. 18, 1951], No. 21842/51. Class 135 A pressure relief valve comprises a housing 1 with a pressure chamber 2 and an exhaust chamber 2a, an annular seating ring holder 7 slidable within the exhaust chamber, passages for pressure fluid adjacent the outer periphery of the holder 7, an annular seating ring 11 secured to the inner periphery of the holder 7 and adapted to make fluid-tight sealing contact with a fixed seat comprising an axially-extending chamfered lip 6 and a seat formed on a thimble-shaped movable valve member 13 and also comprising an axiallyextending chamfered lip 16 and a spring 23 forcing the valve seats and seating into fluid-tight engagement. The ring 11 is of rubber and is secured within a groove in the ring holder 7. The latter has flats 8 to permit the passage of fluid about its periphery. The housing has connections 3, 4 to connect the pressure chamber to a pressure system. The spring 23 is located by a flange 22 on a centrally-apertured plate 18 having arcuate slots 24 covered by a gauze annulus 25 to exclude dirt &c. The plate 18 is secured in place by a circlip 19.
