Abstract
716,679. Magnetic induction accelerator. AKT.- GES. BROWN, BOVERI, & CIE. July 25, 1952 [July 25, 1951], No. 18862/52. Class 39(1) A magnetic induction accelerator for producing X-rays by electron bombardment of an anti-cathode within the acceleration tube is provided with means for arbitrarily varying the direction of the maximum of the X-ray intensity relative to the induction accelerator. In one arrangement, Fig. 1 (not shown), the anti-cathode ray turned by a lever about an axis coinciding, with the axis of the accelerator; alternatively the acceleration tube may be made rotatable relative to the remainder of the accelerator. In another arrangement. Fig. 4, the accelerator is provided with a coil F which may be fed with a D.C. impulse to produce the forces shown by the arrows in Fig. 5 which alter the path of the electron from # to #<SP>1</SP> and thus alter the direction of the X-ray from R to R<SP>1</SP>. In a modification of this arrangement, Fig. 6 (not shown), the coil deflects the electron in a plane perpendicular to the plane of the accelerator tube. In another modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the loops K and L of the coil F are omitted. The electrons may be deflected electrostatically by deflection plates as shown in Fig. 8; the plates V<SP>1</SP> W<SP>1</SP> S<SP>1</SP> T<SP>1</SP> may be omitted, Fig. 7 (not shown).
