Abstract

716,537. Composition fuel. HOUILLERES DU BASSIN DU NORD ET DU PAS-DECALAIS. Oct. 16, 1952 [Jan. 8, 1952], No. 25987/52. Class 50 Coal-pitch agglomerates are hardened and rendered smokeless by subjection to a rapid oxidation followed by a less pronounced oxidation in which the temperature is slightly advanced but not above distillation point, the agglomerates being cooled in an inert atmosphere to not lower than 100‹ C. and finally to room temperature in the air. The first oxidation in an atmosphere of e.g. combustion products or steam with a controlled addition of air or oxygen is effected within the range of 200‹ C.400‹ C. and the second at 230‹ C.- 450‹ C. The temperature to which the agglomerates are cooled in neutral atmosphere depends on the nature of the coal and may be 100‹ C.- 200‹ C., and the final cooling by exposure in thin layers to air may be assisted by water spraymg.
