Abstract

Phthalocyanine compositions (e.g. coating compositions) contain an organic amine the base dissociation coefficient of which is greater than 4.10-7 (cf. Specification 716,324). Amines specified are triethanolamine, monoethanolamine, morpholine, dicyclohexyl amine, 2-ethylhexylamine, di-(2-ethylhexyl) amine, butylamine, diphenylguanidine, dodecylamine, piperidine. Flocculation tests are described on a paint with alkyd binder containing the pigment mixture with addition of titanic oxide, and in some cases 3 per cent magnesium phthalocyanine, up to 10 per cent of diphenylguanidine or dicyclohexylamine being added. Crystallization tests in xylene or benzene using dodecylamine, triethanolamine, or diphenylguanidine are also described. The phthalocyanine employed may be copper phthalocyanine or its chloro derivative, or metal-free phthalocyanine.
