Phthalocyanine-based pigment preparation and process for making the same. It is well known that phthalocyanine and substituted phthalocyanine, in particular those containing halogen substituents in one or more of the benzene nuclei, form colored pigments of considerable color strength and high fastness when finely dispersed. The same applies to certain metal compounds of phthalocyanine and their derivatives, especially those containing copper as the central metal.
In a well-dispersed state, copper phthalocyanine, for example, has twice the coloring power of Milori blue and 20 to 30 times as great as ultramarine.
However, there are certain deficiencies in such phthalocyanine-based pigments. They have a great tendency to flocculate, which means that the pigment particles agglomerate to form larger aggregates, which under certain circumstances are deposited on the bottom of the vessel in which there is a paint or a varnish made from the pigment in question, or in the paint or the paint is not stirred vigorously, as z. B. is the case with spray painting. The flaking reduces the coloring power.
For example, the hue in colors that contain the phthalocyanine pigment in question together with a white filler or substrate such as zinc white or titanium dioxide will be weakened. In some cases, especially while the paint layer is left to stand, a net-like pattern appears in the paint layer before it solidifies.
In addition, these pigments have the disadvantage that they have a more or less rapid tendency to crystal growth. This disadvantage is particularly evident when the binder contains aromatic hydrocarbons, which will often be the case in practice. This tendency towards crystal growth can be counteracted in that the actual basic pigment, e.g.
B. metal-free phthalocyanine, copper phthalocyanine, monochlorine derivatives of the same or mixtures of phthalocyanine compounds, with certain metal phthalocyanine compounds or chlorine derivatives thereof, which have this special effect, without having such authenticity in themselves that they are suitable as a base pigment.
Such additives inhibiting crystal growth - stabilizing agents - are used according to a known method of tin phthalocyanine or its derivatives. But you can also use magnesium phthalocyanine or its halogen derivatives, in particular monochlor = magnesium phthalocyanine and dichloromagnesium siumphthalozyanin.
It has now been shown that by adding at least one organic basic substance whose base dissociation constant (KB) is greater than 4 X 10-7, a considerable reduction in the tendency to flocculate and also a significant increase in the Effect of the aforementioned stabilizing agents can achieve. The invention encompasses the use of the basic auxiliaries, regardless of whether or not stabilizers are to be used.
As basic substances, mono- or polyamines can be used with particular advantage, the molecules of which contain aliphatic and / or cycloaliphatic radicals, but which can also contain aromatic groups. The amino group or groups can under certain circumstances be part of a ring structure.
The following substances, among others, were tested with beneficial effects: triethanolamine, monoethanolamine, morpholine, dicyclohexylamine, 2-ethylhexylamine, di- (2-ethylhexyl) -amine, buttylamine, diphenylguanidine, dodecylamine and piperidine.
All of these organic bases have a base dissociation constant that is greater than 4 X 10-7. Examples of organic, basic substances which have a lower base dissociation coefficient and which are not effective according to the invention are amines of wholly or predominantly aromatic character, such as aniline (KB = 4.6 X B) 10-10), a -naphthylamine (KB = 9.9 X 10-11), ss-naphthylamine, pyridine (KB = 2.3 X 10-9),
Quinoline and various amides such as acetamide, urea, and thiourea.
The auxiliary can be added to the base pigment and mixed well with it, or it can be added to the binder in the production of pigment colors, whereupon the mixture obtained is mixed with the base pigment.
Mixtures of paints containing an additive of amines for various purposes have previously been proposed, whereas this has not been the case with pigments containing such an additive. It has been proposed to add amines together with unsaturated fatty acids to the inks that are emulsifiable in water, and it has also been proposed to add amines to the printing inks, which are aqueous emulsions, in order to improve the properties of the emulsions.
It has also been argued that in the case of paints based on fat or glyptal resin and containing chlorinated organic substances, it is possible to prevent these substances from diluting the paint too much or from forming a skin on the paint by adding organic bases.
Finally, it has been concluded from inadequate experiments that the simultaneous addition of amines with an aliphatic structure as well as amines with a cyclic structure to paints based on glyptal resin could improve the durability of the paint layers obtained by drying, while the addition of amines of one of these types does the opposite Should have an effect. According to the experiments on which the present invention is based, however, this conclusion is unfounded.
On the other hand, it has not been stated earlier that the addition of amines, which have a base dissociation constant of more than 4 × 10-7, to phthalocyanine pigments should have a special effect, by reducing flocculation and increasing stability . been.
The invention is explained in more detail below by means of some exemplary embodiments. 1. flakes.
The following tests were carried out with a number of different pigment mixtures with or without the addition of a basic auxiliary substance: A mixture containing a phthalocyanine pigment and titanium dioxide was added to a binding agent based on glyptal resin. A part of the paint thus produced was applied by spraying onto white sheet metal, and after the paint layer thus formed had dried, a smaller amount of the paint was poured onto the top of the same, which had been very strong immediately before. the hand had been stirred.
When the pigment flakes, it is. A clear difference between the two parts can be seen in that the flaked part becomes lighter, and the surface may acquire a network structure: The assessments given below have in all cases been carried out by comparison with paints of the same composition, in which only the basic one Auxiliary substance has been omitted.

Other weight ratios between base pigment and stabilizer and between phthalocyanine mixture and auxiliary were also investigated, and the invention is in no way restricted to the ratios mentioned in the examples. In addition, several control experiments have shown that the results in benzene agree very well with the results in xylene.
It should be mentioned that under the same test conditions (both with and without stabilizing agent and / or auxiliary) metal-free phthalocyanine shows a greater tendency to crystal growth than copper phthalocyanine, which again shows greater tendency to crystal growth than monochloro copper phthalocyanine.
