Abstract
716,199. Moulding building panels. BROCKWORTH BUILDING CO., Ltd., and HAWKSLEY. Ltd., A. W., [trading as HAWKSLEY CONSTRUCTIONS], and JONES, E. H. Nov. 5, 1952 [Nov. 5, 1951], No. 25836/51. Class 87 (2) A method of making a building panel comprises the steps of casting on two separate tables the outer parts of the panel, bringing the tables into a vertical position wherein the faces of the parts previously uppermost on the tables are adjacent but spaced apart, applying bonding material between the panels, and moving the tables apart when the bonding material is set whereby the panel may be removed while in a substantially vertical position from one of the tables. The tables 10, 11, shown in their vertical positions, are each pivoted at 28 on supporting structures 12, 13 and each comprises a rectangular framework for a concrete slab which has a smooth surface 57 and is of double thickness at 58 for counterweighting. The structure 13 is stationary but the structure 12 is mounted on wheels 20, 22 which run on rails 23. There is an additional guide rail for rollers 42, to prevent sideways movement. With the tables horizontal and the structure 12 moved away from 13 the surfaces 57 are prepared by polishing, and coating with a parting liquid, e.g. oil, and wood on metal edgings of the size and shape of the required panel are clamped on the surfaces, on which also doors, window frames or picture rails may be positioned. Into the shallow moulds so formed good quality liquid plaster is poured, followed by poorer quality plaster into which fibrous reinforcement is inserted so that it partially projects. When the plaster has set sufficiently the tables are raised to the vertical position by winches 30 which, when turned by hand-wheels 36, through suitable gearing, apply tension to cables 31 anchored at both ends to semi-circular guide members 29 fixed to the table frames. The structure 12 is then wheeled up to the structure 13 till the two newly-cast surfaces are close together and spacing bolts 60 are placed in position to ensure a panel of constant width. Bars 51 project from the structure 12 and have holes for the hooked ends of bolts 52 whereby, when hand-wheels 54, screwed on the threaded ends of the bolts, are tightened the structures 12, 13 are held against movement apart. Bonding material, e.g. semiliquid grout, is then poured between the surfaces and allowed to set. The two tables are separated, leaving the complete panel on one table, and the panel is removed while still vertical by a hoist. Edging members are advantageously incorporated permanently, one being a metal channel to which attachments may be made for clinging and which further forms a damp course when the panel is in place.
