Class 59 In a machine for crushing, selecting and sifting material comprising rotatable members which co-operate with the periphery of a working chamber to crush the material under treatment, peripheral and tangential ports extending lengthwise of the chamber for the inlet of air and the material to be crushed and an axial suction port or channel, arranged at that end of the chamber remote from the port for the inlet of material to be crushed, for the crushed material are provided, so that the material is crushed, its particles selected by a cyclonic process, and the material sifted. In the form shown, the rotating members are formed by two spaced discs 10 and 11 interconnected by vanes 12 which project radially beyond the periphery of the discs and laterally on both sides beyond the ends of the discs. The radial ends of the vanes are provided with interchangeable wear plates 26 which co-act with bars 2 on the inner surface of the working chamber 1. The working chamber is closed at one end by a plate 4 and partly closed at the other end by a partition 16 secured to the end portion of a suction pipe 23 and spaced from the working chamber to provide an annular slot 18. Air and material to be.crushed are supplied through a cowl 24 ending in a shoot provided with a partition which divides the air supply into two parts the arrangement being such that air and material to be crushed. are supplied tangentially to the space between the end plate 4 and the disc 10 and selecting air-is supplied tangentially at least to the space between the discs. The bars 2 are also provided in front of the inlet port for the material to be crushed and serve to break up and subdivide the material as it leaves the crushing zone and is about to enter the selecting zone. The slot 18 communicates with a sifting chamber 19 provided with adjustable inlet ports 27, 28 and with a deflecting partition 21. The vanes 12 may be curved. A cooling fluid may flow through a casing 3 surrounding the chamber 1.
