715,004. Force-lasted shoes. HERLIHY, W. F., and HERLIHY, J. J., [trading as LOWELL COUNTER CO.]. Dec. 12, 1952, No. 31530/52. Class 17(2) In making a force-lasted shoe, particularly when using fairly thick and stiff upper material, the toe portion 13 of a vamp 3 is shrunk at its marginal edge 14 to form a pocket 16 having a smooth, convex outer surface 15, e.g. by the apparatus described in Specification 635,386. A toe box blank 17 which if desired may be somewhat preshaped is placed in the pocket 16 and if not inherently adhesive, adhesive A is applied the toe parts then being moulded in suitable dies to shape the toe and concomitantly adhesively bond the toe box blank and vamp. The vamp may be joined to a counter which with a counter blank may also be moulded to shape before or after its attachment to the vamp. The shoe is then completed by the attachment of a wrapper and a sock lining and the usual force-lasting process. Specifications 635,548 and 659,705 also are referred to.
