In Figs. 1, 2 a taphole bush for a substantially flat bottomed metal beer-cask 6 whose side walls 7 are extended downwardly of the bottom 8 to form a supporting skirt 9 comprises a cylindrical metal housing 2 inwardly extended by an integral semicircular open channel member 3 closed by a semicircular plate 4. The outer end has a tapered recess receiving a wooden bung 5 having a centrally 'weakened portion capable of being knocked out by the introduction of a tap 1, whose perforated spigot extends into the channel member 3, and the bush is inserted in a taphole whose centre line is at or slightly below the level of the cask bottom, which is slotted to accommodate the length of the bush and its semicircular channel; the points being made tight by welding or compounding. Since the channel is below the bottom of the cask the last residues of beer may be easily drained therefrom. The cask bottom may be inclined as at 8<SP>1</SP> and for use with a wooden cask the exterior of the bush may be threaded to engage the taphole and jointed by compound to the slotted barrel bottom. In a modification the bush 2 and the channel member 3 are separated by a bored and threaded seating 14 co-operating with a rubber washer 16 and a hollow rotatable screwdown valve member 15 having peripheral ports 18, and a projection 17 adapted to engage grooves formed in a dispensing cock (not shown) which may be screwed into the recess 19 at the mouth of the bush and at the same time turns the valve in the opening direction.
