Abstract

714,699. Feeding sheets. STOLZ, A. July 26, 1951 [July 29, 1950], No. 17768/51. Class 100 (1) Sheet separators and carriers.-Sheets are separated from a stack by two groups of suction devices operating alternately, each group being disposed on a separate suction rod or carrier, and the two rods projecting from opposite sides over the stack and having a circling or gyratory motion about one another during reciprocatory swinging movements. A known feeler and control member for regulating the height of the stack is associated with each suction group. As shown in Fig. 1, there are two sets of suckers 1, 2 each operating to lift up a sheet and move it forwardly of the stack 3 into grippers 5 on an endless chain conveyor 6 which feeds the sheets in overlapped formation towards the front stops 10 of a machine. A reciprocating blower device 12 is associated with each set of suckers to facilitate sheet separation. The sets of suckers are raised, tilted, and oscillated by eccentric discs 14, 15 carried by shafts driven by bevel gearing 13, 13' (not shown). The chains 6, Figs. 1 and 4, are driven by variable speed gearing such that when the grippers 5 are opened to receive a sheet, they are moving at minimum speed. In a modification, Fig. 5, the suckers 1, 2 are arranged at the front end of the stack 3, and while one set 1 is feeding a sheet B4 to the grippers 5, the other set 2 is beneath and separating the next sheet B5. The set 1 swings further away from the stack after delivering the sheet B4 to the grippers 5, and then descends backwardly beneath the sheet B5 to the top of the stack 3. Grippers.-The grippers 5, Fig. 4, which are pivotally mounted on the chains 6, include spring tongues 16 curved upwardly at 7. Specification 612,048 is referred to.
