Abstract

714,581. Knitting. LOMBARDI, V. Dec. 7, 1950 [Jan. 13,1950], No. 30013/50. Class 74 (2) In a knitted fabric are arranged in a predetermined pattern, a plurality of bulges, each formed by the provision of a greater number of courses between two spaced courses in certain interior portions of the fabric than between the said two courses in other parts of the fabric, the coursewise ends of at least certain of the excess courses being tied into the fabric. The body yarn may be constituted by yarns 10, 11, 12 fed by wrap feeders fed back and forth across sections C, D, E of the fabric, wrap yarns 14, 15, 16 being knitted in to form a bulge and help to tie the sections together: Fig. 2 shows an article embodying such fabric and used in the formation of a hat, that part containing the: yarns 14, 15, 16 gathering into a U-shaped bulge 33 which will form the hat brim. Fig. 5 shows a fabric having a multiplicity of bulges and formed from main yarn 62 and wrap yarns 63-66. The extra courses may be interspersed in large groups. Fig. 9 shows a fabric in which courses 91, 92, 104 and 105 extend for the full extent of a wrap yarn feed, courses 93 and 103 run from one end of the bulge to the opposite end of the portion of fabric, courses 94-98 are of gradually decreasing extent and courses 98-102 are of gradually increasing extent. Other variations are described. The bulges of the ground yarn may be in differing colours. A fabric may be composed entirely of wrap yarns and embody bulges in design formation within other design portions, as in Fig. 19: the dotted lines indicate yarns caught into the fabric without knitting.
