Abstract

714,424. Frying apparatus. RATHBONE, A. E. April 15, 1952 [April 11, 1951], No. 8361/51. Class 28(1) A cooker for doughnuts or the like comprises a fat-heating vat, a cage for receiving articles to be cooked and adapted to be lowered'into and raised out of said vat, a vat casing which also accommodates the cage in its raised position, and openings in the casing for loading and unloading the articles. As shown, cooking fat 2 is heated in. a vat 1,. in a casing 5, by a gas jet 3, the temperature being indicated by a thermometer 1A. Also within casing 5 a cage 6, having four shelves' 7, 8, 9, 10 to accommodate trays 13, 14, 15, 16 of doughnuts, is suspended by a chain 11 fixed to a grooved disc 17 on a shaft 18. The cage 6 is raised and lowered by a sprocket wheel mounted on shaft 18 and driven by chain 20 from a further sprocket wheel 21 having a handle 23. Weight 25 is mounted on shaft 18 and acts as a counterpoise to cage 6 when it is raised. The cage, when raised, is level with openings 27, 28 in casing 5. Trays of uncooked doughnuts are inserted through opening 27 and trays of cooked doughnuts are pushed out of the cage on to shelves 29, 30, 31, 32. These shelves are held by bars 36, 37 and rest against the edge of opening 28. The Provisional Specification describes a similar apparatus but employing a rack and pinion instead of a chain and disc to raise and lower the cage 6.
