Class 59 A pendulum-type roller-and-ring mill comprises a rotatable tube 7 suspended from a sleeve 5 of a driving pulley 9 by means of an elastic ring 6 so that the tube performs a pendulating, oscillating, rolling movement around the outer surface of a roller element 10, material being fed to the grinding surfaces by means of a funnel 19, tube 21, and distributing device 22. The surfaces of the sleeve a and tube 7 which engage the ring 6 are provided with axial grooves.The roller element 10 may be stationary or rotate in the same or opposite direction to the tube 7. The grinding surfaces may be cylindrical or, as shown, conical with' the apex of conicity in the medial plane of the ring 6. The ground material is discharged through a spiral or helical channel 14 which may also serve as a wind sifter or air separator by leading air into it through an inlet 15, e.g. by means of fan blades 16. The ground material is caused to rotate by means of brushes or scrapers 17. The roller element 10 is cooled by introducing a cooling agent through a pipe 11. The lower part of the tube 7 may be cooled by spraying water thereon or by means of air entering the inlet 15. In modifications, Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown), the engaging surfaces between the tube 7 and roller element 10 are separate from the grinding surfaces. In another modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), the' casing of the discharge channel is suspended by means of springs from a frame which is supported in a foundation plate by means of further springs.
