Abstract
713,160. Turbine or compressor blades. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. Nov. 27, 1952 [Dec. 20, 1951], No. 30075/52. Class 110(3) [Also in Group XXXVI] A blade for an elastic fluid turbine or compressor is formed by applying a metallic shell to a preformed cone assembly made at least in part of synthetic resinous material so as to completely enclose it. The compressor blades 12, Fig. 1 shown comprise a core 14 made of synthetic resinous material enclosed by a metallic shell 15. The core is formed of a moulded synthetic resinous material which is coated with silver and then placed in an electrolytic plating bath where high. strength nickel or copper is deposited until a thickness of 0.02 to 0.04 inches is obtained. The wall thickness may be tapered by slowly withdrawing the blades, tip uppermost, from the bath. In a modification, the core is made in two parts, the root being made of metal and the blade of synthetic resinous material. The core is held together by a covering of synthetic resin or like laminate which is then covered with silver and plated.
